Working Group 2 - Requirements and Technology

1. Statement of Purpose

The Req & Tech Working Group will address the following questions:

  • What are the elements of trust; what defines the trustworthiness of an ICT product or service?
  • What elements of trust are currently unsatisfied?
  • What are the requirements for the currently unsatisfied elements of trust? What is the role that technology can play?
  • What potential technical solutions exist for currently unsatisfied elements of trust? How do they relate to the agenda for research and innovation?

2. Scope of the Working Group

The Req & Tech Working Group will take the following approach:

  • Analysis of use cases and identification of threats that affect trust
  • Create an overview of the elements that create a trustworthy service or product
  • Create an overview of the state-of-the-art
  • Identify which currently unsatisfied elements of trust can best be satisfied using technology
  • Create high level technical requirements for unsatisfied elements of trust
  • Prioritize requirements and present them in a roadmap.

3. Timeframe

The Tech & Req Working Group will meet face to face every quarter. The meetings are collocated with other TDL meeting.

4. Definition of the desired end result and any intermediate deliverables

By end December 2011, the Tech & Req Working Group is to produce the following deliverables:

  • Deliverable: Elements of Trust
    • Analysis of use cases and identification of threats that affect trust
    • Create an overview of the elements that create a trustworthy service or product
  • Deliverable: Technical requirements for Trust
    • Create an overview of the state-of-the-art
  • Identify which currently unsatisfied elements of trust can best be satisfied using technology
  • Create high level technical requirements for unsatisfied elements of trust
  • Deliverable: Roadmap of trust

5. Guidelines regarding composition

In line with the general aim for balance in the Trust in Digital Life initiative, the Requirements and Technology Working Group should strive to have the following composition:

  • One-third solution providers;
  • One-third application customers, or service industries that will use the technologies; and
  • One-third academic researchers and others from non-profit organizations (e.g., consumer groups, civil and political rights advocates, etc.) whose work relates to the Objectives.
